New Writing at Redhills: A Celebration of Coalfield Stories

Join us for an afternoon of live performance as new voices take to the stage at Redhills.
This special event marks the culmination of a four-week creative writing course led by Writer in Residence Andy Willoughby, bringing together original work shaped by the stories, histories and lived experiences of coalfield communities.
Through poetry, short fiction and dramatic monologue, participants will share newly created pieces inspired by personal memory, family history and the rich social heritage of the Durham coalfield. These performances offer a unique opportunity to hear fresh perspectives and contemporary voices emerging from a place deeply rooted in collective history.
Set within the historic surroundings of Redhills, this event continues the building’s long tradition as a space for gathering, expression and community voice—connecting past and present through creativity.
Redhills bar will be open for refreshments and light snacks.
