1990’s Iraq – 9 yr old Lamia lives with her grandmother in peasant village. At school, a cake must be made each year for Sadam Hussein’s birthday – after lots are drawn Lamia is chosen. Commodities are scarce due to international sanctions and with dire consequences for failure, Lamia clutching her favourite rooster and her friend Saeed travel to a nearby city in an attempt to secure what they need. A tender, poetic movie full of insight and compassion.
