DESCRIPTION:Voices from the Coalfield: Marking the 100th Anniversary of the General Strike \nWith special guest Tom Kelly. \nJoin us at Redhills Durham Miners Hall for a special afternoon of poetry\, storytelling and live performance as we mark the centenary of the 1926 General Strike. \nThis celebratory event is the culmination of a four-week creative writing course led by Writer in Residence Andy Willoughby\, bringing together original work shaped by the stories\, histories and lived experiences of coalfield communities. \nThrough poetry\, short fiction and dramatic monologue\, participants will share newly created pieces inspired by personal memory\, family history and the rich social heritage of County Durham — fresh contemporary voices in dialogue with the past. \nWe are delighted to welcome special guest Tom Kelly\, whose work has long given voice to the region’s people\, places and struggles. \nThere will also be a limited open mic for poems and songs inspired by County Durham history\, mining heritage and traditions of struggle. \nSet within the historic surroundings of Redhills this event continues the building’s long tradition as a place of gathering\, expression and community voice.
