DESCRIPTION:The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists\n\nadapted by Neil Gore from the book by Robert Tressell\, directed by Louise Townsend.\n\nNeil Gore\, presents this SELL OUT one-person version of the classic novel by Robert Tressell featuring projection\, political conjuring tricks\, live music and song. Meet the famous characters and enjoy the scenes\, speeches and songs\, featuring the Great Money Trick as its centrepiece. \nThis enduring and absorbing classic story of a year in the life of a group of Edwardian painters and decorators is brought to life by Neil Gore using his extensive knowledge of the book and the play\, having performed it in many versions over forty years. \n‘The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists’ follows a group of workers as they renovate ‘The Cave’\, a three-storey town house\, for Mayor Sweater. It traces their hardships and struggles for survival in a complacent and stagnating Edwardian England. These workers are the ‘philanthropists’ who throw themselves into back-breaking work for poverty wages in order to generate profit for their masters. DESCRIPTION:No Sweat presents… \nSTAND UP FOR THE MINERS\nA night of comedy and politics\, in support of the Durham Miners Gala. \nStarring… \nMark Thomas\n  \nAnd hosted by Andrew O’Neill \nOther acts TBC. The evening will also feature a panel discussion on the lessons of the 1984-85 Miners Strike 40 years on (details TBC).\n\nJoin the Durham Miners Association at the historic Redhills – Durham Miners Hall. All proceeds will go to the Marras – Friends of Durham Miners Gala. \nTickets £20 and all proceeds will go to support the Durham Miners Gala. If you can\, please also make an extra donation when you buy your tickets. \n\nFor more than a century\, the Gala was funded by the working miners of the Durham coalfield. It is their gift to us all. Following the closure of the collieries\, the DMA joined the major trade unions to create the not-for-profit Friends of Durham Miners Gala. Those who chip in are known as ‘Marras’  – a Durham miners’ term for a trusted friend or colleague. Join our band of Marras here.\nStand Up For The Miners is presented by No Sweat\, the grassroots campaign that builds solidarity among workers’ worldwide and makes the T-shirt that fights sweatshop labour!
