SUMMARY:Never Give Up 2026
DESCRIPTION:A powerful night of music\, unity\, and hope as local artists and students stand together to support RT Minds’ life‑saving work.\n\n\nStep inside the beautifully restored Durham Miners Hall for NEVER GIVE UP 2026. A night where music\, courage\, and community rise together in the face of one of the hardest battles many people ever face. \nThis powerful concert brings together passionate local musicians and talented Durham University performers who share more than their music. Some have walked the darkest roads themselves. Some have stood helplessly beside someone they loved. Each of them steps onto the stage with extraordinary bravery .. not to dwell on pain\, but to transform it into something life‑giving. They perform to speak out\, to break silence\, and to help others feel less alone. \nAlongside the music\, motivational speaker Beano will bring his raw honesty and unique ability to connect with the heart. His words remind us what it means to be human\, to struggle\, to rise\, and to keep going. \nThis is more than a concert. It’s a reminder that hope is real\, community is powerful\, and no one has to face the darkness alone. \nAs one past attendee said:\n“Never Give Up is an emotional rollercoaster. I laughed and cried in equal measure — but I left with hope in my heart.” \nIf you’ve never experienced the strength and joy of this event\, this is your chance.’ \nDoors Open Time:     6pm \nConcert Start Time:     7pm \nConcert End Time:     10pm

SUMMARY:Colpitts Poetry at Redhills: A Fiftieth Birthday Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Colpitts Poetry is fifty\, and to mark the occasion we’re staging a novel and exciting relaunch event at Durham Miners Hall. This will take the form of a ‘retrospective’ and fundraiser\, in which a number of our committee members past and present will read poems by a sample of the 440-plus readers who have performed at Colpitts between its foundation in 1975 and 2017 when we held our last regular reading. From Fleur Adcock to Harry Zevenbergen\, Gillian Allnutt to Derek Walcott\, we’ve presented a vast range of different poetries over the course of our existence\, and this evening offers a chance to hear what should be a fascinating cross-section of this work. \nThere’ll be a bar\, with tea and coffee also available\, and the venue is fully accessible. This is a ticketed event. \n\nTickets \nSolidarity Ticket\nIf you’re feeling generous and you have the means\, please consider choosing this rate. Each Solidarity ticket subsidises two concession tickets\, and helps more people experience events at Redhills. \nStandard Ticket\nThis is our standard ticket price for this event. Please choose it if you can. Our standard ticket prices help us to run and maintain Redhills and the programme here. \nOpen Concession\nIf you don’t have the cash right now\, don’t worry; book this rate and let us welcome you with open arms\, no questions asked.

SUMMARY:By Our Life's Ember - A Concert of Remembrance
DESCRIPTION:This concert is dedicated to honouring those who gave their lives in service\, and to remembering the generations of miners whose courage\, sacrifice\, and solidarity shaped our region’s identity. The mining heritage of County Durham is one of resilience and unity — forged in the depths of the earth and carried forward in the strength of its people. \nBrass bands and choirs have long been part of that heritage\, lifting spirits in times of hardship and celebrating moments of hope. Today\, their music helps us reflect on the lives lost in war\, in the mines\, and in the struggles for justice and dignity. \nThis special concert pays tribute to: \nMiners who served in both World Wars\nBevin Boys conscripted into the mines during WWII\nTunnellers who dug beneath enemy lines in WWI \nAs we listen to the powerful sounds of the Durham Miners’ Association Brass Band and the moving voices of Lirica\, we are reminded of the role music has always played in the lives of miners — from the colliery bands that lifted spirits\, to the songs that told their stories. This concert is a tribute to that legacy. Their memory lives on in our music\, in our gatherings\, and in our shared commitment to community.

SUMMARY:We Are The Lions\, Mr. Manager!
DESCRIPTION:Townsend Theatre Productions presents\n\n\n\nWE ARE THE LIONS\, MR MANAGER!\n– the story of Jayaben Desai and the Grunwick Strike\n\nWritten by Neil Gore      Directed by Louise Townsend\n\nIn 1976\, six workers walked out of Grunwick Film Processing Laboratory and Factory in Willesden. They staged a strike against their poor working conditions\, demanding the right to join a union.\n\nLess than two years later\, those six had been joined by 20\,000 supporters in an historic dispute fighting for better rights for poorly treated workers. Predominantly Asian women\, these strikers shattered stereotypes\, challenged the establishment\, brought a community together to support the rights of workers and changed the face of trade unionism.\n\nOn the 50th anniversary of the start of the Grunwick Strike\, Townsend Theatre Productions celebrates their bravery\, bringing their inspirational story to a new generation with “We Are The Lions\, Mr Manager!”\, an imaginative and stylish production with songs and music of the time accompanied by an integrated exhibition.\n\nThis performance will be creatively captioned. Creative captions offer an opportunity for deaf and hard of hearing audiences to more fully immerse themselves as captions are designed to complement the set and the performance.\n\n\nTownsend Productions: ‘…a company making a name for delivering vivid\, politically committed theatre’ – The Observer. \n\n\nTownsend Productions previous tours: \nThe Ragged Trousered Philanthropists (**** ‘Tremendous’ – The Times)\, \nWe Will Be Free! (Show to see! – The Stage)\, \nUnited We Stand (**** ‘Excellent’ – The Observer)\, \nDare Devil Rides To Jarama (***** ‘Outstanding’ – London Theatre1) \n\nTicket Pricing \nAt Redhills\, we want everyone to feel welcome — whatever their financial situation.
