SUMMARY:Gala fundraiser with Eddie Dempsey and the RMT Fishburn Band
DESCRIPTION:The Durham Miners Association (DMA) presents… \n\nJoin the DMA at the historic Redhills – Durham Miners Hall on Friday 27 February.\nAn evening of brass band music with the fantastic RMT Fishburn Band\, plus we’ll hear from RMT General Secretary Eddie Dempsey\, a great platform speaker at last year’s Gala. Eddie will be joined by DMA Chairman Stephen Guy and City of Durham MP Mary Kelly Foy. And tickets are free (with the option to pay for a ticket or make a donation). \nEveryone is welcome\, and we are offering free tickets. If you wish you can also choose a ticket for £5\, £10 or £15\, or you can make a donation when you check out. All proceeds will go to the Marras – Friends of Durham Miners Gala to help fund the 2026 Gala. \nYou can also make a donation on the evening when we will also be selling a range of fantastic Gala merch. All proceeds will go to help fund the 140th Durham Miners Gala on Saturday 11 July 2026. \nDoors open at 6.30pm and the event will get underway at 7pm. RMT Fishburn Band will get us underway with their first set\, before we hear from Eddie\, Stephen and Mary. DESCRIPTION:This concert is dedicated to honouring those who gave their lives in service\, and to remembering the generations of miners whose courage\, sacrifice\, and solidarity shaped our region’s identity. The mining heritage of County Durham is one of resilience and unity — forged in the depths of the earth and carried forward in the strength of its people. \nBrass bands and choirs have long been part of that heritage\, lifting spirits in times of hardship and celebrating moments of hope. Today\, their music helps us reflect on the lives lost in war\, in the mines\, and in the struggles for justice and dignity. \nThis special concert pays tribute to: \nMiners who served in both World Wars\nBevin Boys conscripted into the mines during WWII\nTunnellers who dug beneath enemy lines in WWI \nAs we listen to the powerful sounds of the Durham Miners’ Association Brass Band and the moving voices of Lirica\, we are reminded of the role music has always played in the lives of miners — from the colliery bands that lifted spirits\, to the songs that told their stories. This concert is a tribute to that legacy. Their memory lives on in our music\, in our gatherings\, and in our shared commitment to community.
