Till very recently they were Hartlepool Folk Festival. \nFounded in 2015\, for ten years HFF was the home of magical happenings\, unforgettable experiences and the very finest in folk music. Unfortunately\, 2025 saw the closure of the Borough Hall\, their mainstage venue\, which put the future of the festival at risk. With real regret\, they concluded that the only way forward was to explore alternative locations. \nFestival Organiser Joanie Crump said\, “Sad as we are to leave Hartlepool\, we’re delighted to have found a new home – and what a home! From medieval architecture to cobblestone streets\, Durham transports you back in time. Whether it’s the Land of the Prince Bishops or the beating heart of the Durham coalfield\, there is so much to discover. Join us as we reveal all that this sublime location has to offer\, with its two UNESCO World Heritage Sites\, spectacular settings and boundless charm. DESCRIPTION:Join us in the Pitman’s Parliament to celebrate the centenary of the High Spen Blue Diamonds rapper team. \nA tradition unique to the pit villages of County Durham and Northumberland\, rapper dancing was first performed by miners in the 19th century and is more popular than ever\, with rapper teams found all over England and in countries across the world. \nPhil Heaton\, author of Rapper: The Miners’ Sword Dance of North-East England\, will be in conversation with Ricky Forster\, grandson of the team’s founder Fred Forster\, where they will discuss the history of the team\, the Spen dance\, the legacy of the Forster family (from the 1800s to present-day generations) and everything in between. DESCRIPTION:One concert\, 2 perspectives\, a singular heritage. Voices from the Lough is a celebration of Lough Neagh and the Bann in the ancient province of Ulster by the world-class musicians it has produced. \nFirst up is Barry Kerr\, a multi-instrumentalist and singer whose music expresses the very heart of Irish life. Originally from the southern shores of Lough Neagh\, his music is deeply rooted in place — shaped by the lough\, the communities that raised him\, and the stories he feels compelled to pass on. Barry holds the current title of Folk Album of the Year for Curlew’s Cry. \nNext up is Lí Ban. Winner of both RTE and BBC Radio’s Folk Singer of the Year title\, Ríoghnach Connolly collaborates here with family – aunts\, uncles and cousins – to interpret and share the traditions of Lough Neagh. The ties that bind tradition and people are writ large\, as this Armagh clan serve up a repertoire seldom heard outside its own locale. This extends to the instrumentation\, which includes the rare\, wire-strung Downhill Harp. \nThis is a chance to experience music steeped in regional heritage\, forged where generations fished the waters\, built boats and composed songs that were woven into a once-vibrant tradition. \nClick Here for Tickets

Over the past four decades\, Jez Lowe has been one of the UK’s best –-and busiest – singer-songwriters. His songs often contain powerful social commentary\, wrapped up in lyrical brilliance and with more than a smattering of North East humour. Those who have recorded Jez’s songs include Fairport Convention\, The Dubliners\, The Unthanks\, The Young Uns\, Bob Fox\, Liam Clancy\, The Black Family and many more. \nSam Carter creates a loving tribute to one of the genre’s most influential artists. Nic Jones’ innovative\, groundbreaking guitar style and profoundly emotive singing have inspired generations of folk musicians\, and his seminal album\, Penguin Eggs\, remains a treasured masterpiece over four decades later. \nHailed by fellow folk artist Jon Boden as “the finest English-style fingerpicking guitarist of his generation\,” Sam is uniquely positioned to interpret this revered repertoire.
